Yazoo in Memphis: Hop Project flights, cask night on tap this week

Yazoo Brewing CompanyThere’s a pair of events in Memphis this week featuring hoppy brews from Nashville’s Yazoo Brewing Company.

First up, tonight (Tuesday) at the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium in Downtown, there will be tappings of Hop Project #65, #66 and #68. (Each edition of Hop Project is brewed with a different blend of hops, never to be repeated again.)

You’ll be able to get a flight with samples of all three for just $3, and pints are $3 as well. The kegs will be tapped at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, there will be a special Yazoo cask night at Hog & Hominy in East Memphis. Yazoo’s Ivan Chester will be bringing a special cask of Pale Ale dry-hopped with Columbus hops.

Buy the beer, keep the pint glass. Plus, $1 from every purchase will benefit Toys for Tots. The event starts at 5 p.m.

Our good friends at the Cooper-Young Regional Beerfest posted this video filmed at Sweet Grass Next Door on IPA Day.

In it, Beerfest chairman Andy Ashby talks about Yazoo Brewing Company’s Hop Project and, of course, the 3rd annual Cooper-Young Regional Beerfest. The always-awesome festival is coming up Oct. 13 and features breweries within a day’s drive of Memphis.

Mesquite Chop House in Memphis to host Yazoo beer (and cheese!) dinner on Aug. 17

Yazoo Brewing CompanyBeer and cheese. There is anything better?

There’s a special dinner coming soon that will combine the two, and we’re talking the good stuff: beers from Nashville’s Yazoo Brewing Company and organic cheeses from Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese Shop in Kentucky.

It’s happening Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Mesquite Chop House in Downtown Memphis. Reservations are required, and the cost is $30 per person.

Here’s the menu:

1st Course:

Asiago fallen soufflé served with red onion jam and Woodland Farms honey. Paired with Yazoo Hefeweizen.

2nd Course:
Norwood mac & cheese loaded with apple-wood smoked bacon,and jalapeño topped with herb panko crumbs. Paired with Yazoo Hop Project.

3rd Course:
Aged gouda and arugula salad with candied pecans, fresh blueberries and a Woodland Farms tomato vinaigrette. Paired with Yazoo Pale Ale.

4th Course:
Mesquite grilled New York strip accompanied by Kentucky bleu au gratin potatoes, asparagus and a Sue demi glaze. Paired with Yazoo Sue.

Dessert:
Aged cheddar apple tartlets with house-made Dos Perros vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce. Paired with Yazoo Dos Perros.
