Sampling fantastic brews at Piece Brewery in Chicago

November 12, 2011 By: grant Category: Breweries, Travelin'

Just split 7 3oz samplers from Piece Pizzeria & Brewery in Chicago, including a crisp Kolsh, a hearty oatmeal stout and a hoppy Egyptian pale (like a double IPA). Super-delicious, and we haven’t even got our pizza yet!

FuzzyBrew Review: 3 Floyds Dreadnaught

November 12, 2011 By: grant Category: Craft beer, FuzzyBrew Review, Travelin'

Brewery: 3 Floyds

Location: Munster, In

Style: Imperial India Pale Ale

ABV: 9.5%

IBU: 99

This standout Imperial IPA from 3 Floyds has a solid caramel flavor that balances out the massive citrus hops. Very smooth and somewhat creamy, I could drink this all day, if I took it slow.

This is a wonderful beer that homebrewers can aspire to.

Taking suggestions for upcoming Chicago trip

If all goes well tomorrow night I’ll be hopping on a bus and waking up Friday morning in Chicago. One of my best buds just had a kid and I’m going to go ensure my corrupting influence is felt early.

On the agenda is beer, lots of it. We’re going to brew a batch of beer (his first time) and hit up some brew pubs, hopefully including some of the following:

Chicago Beer Society also has a pretty substantial list of regional beer destinations.

So, if you were us, how would you prioritize this list? Did I miss any important ones? And where would you buy beer unavailable in Memphis to bring back home?
