Brew Movement Against Multiple Sclerosis moving to Pink Palace for 4th annual event

January 16, 2013 By: mike Category: Craft beer, Events, Homebrew, Memphis

The Brew Movement Against Multiple Sclerosis will have a new home in 2013.

The 4th annual beer tasting event, which has raised over $21,000 to date for the Mid South Chapter of the National MS Society, will be held March 14, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis. It’s a bigger and more high-profile location for the growing event, which was previously held at Chickasaw Oaks Village.

Brew Movement is organized by local homebrewer Joe Barnes and features craft beer, homebrew, food, live music and a silent auction. And it’s all in the name of raising funds for and spreading awareness of Multiple Sclerosis, a devastating autoimmune disease of the central nervous system.

Tickets are $30 in advance and can be purchased online now by going to the Brew Movement website or in person at Mid-South Malts, 741 N. White Station Road. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $35 each, cash only.

A great time was had by all Thursday night at the 3rd annual Brew Movement, which raised money for the Mid South Chapter of the National MS Society. Those of us from FuzzyBrew volunteered and poured beer from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Red Brick Brewing. There was also great craft beer from Stone Brewing Co., Yazoo Brewing Co. and Ghost River Brewing, among others, and tasty homebrew from the Bluff City Brewers & Connoisseurs and Memphis Brewer’s Association.

March 12, 2012 By: mike Category: Breweries, Craft beer, Events, Homebrew, Memphis

The brewery list is out for the 3rd annual Brew Movement, and the highlights include beers from Stone Brewing Co., Yazoo Brewing Co. and Ghost River Brewing.

The beer tasting event, which benefits the Mid South Chapter of the National MS Society, is Thursday, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the Chickasaw Oaks Village shopping center in East Memphis.

In addition to Stone, Yazoo and Ghost River, beers will be served from Boscos, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Red Brick Brewing, Saranac and Woodchuck. On the sweeter side, there will be Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and Lindemnan’s Framboise Raspberry Lambic for “chocolate truffles” and beer floats.

There will also be plenty of homebrew from the Bluff City Brewers & Connoisseurs and the Memphis Brewer’s Association.

The Bluff City Brewers are bringing a Black Lager, Cask-conditioned Bitter, Irish Red, Irish Stout, Orange Dreamsicle and Prohibition Ale. The Brewer’s Association guys will bring an Altbier, American Brown (one batch with American Ale yeast and one with London ESB yeast), American Pale Ale, Rosemary Pale Ale, Piggy Porter (bacon porter) and a Scottish Ale.

The event will feature hors d’oeuvres from Just for Lunch and Ciao Bella. There will also be live music, door prizes and a silent auction.

Tickets, which cost $25, are still available online or in person at Midsouth Malts, 741 N. White Station.

Pub crawl Saturday in Overton Square to benefit National MS Society

February 29, 2012 By: mike Category: Craft beer, Events, Memphis

2nd-Annual-5K-Pub-Crawl
On Saturday afternoon, have a pint (or maybe a few!) in Overton Square and raise money for a good cause.

The second-annual “MS Pub Crawl” will hit up five different bars around Overton Square in Midtown Memphis.

The event starts at 2 p.m. at Boscos Squared, then goes to the Bayou Bar & Grill, Blue Monkey, Molly’s La Casita, Dublin House, and then back to the Bayou, where the festivities finish around 6 p.m.

The cost is $20 and includes a commemorative T-Shirt and enters you into a drawing to win a free trip to Las Vegas.

The event is sponsored by the Memphis Brewer’s Association, and proceeds benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system and affects 400,000 Americans.

The pub crawl is the first of two beer-related events benefiting research for MS in March. The third annual Brew Movement, a craft beer and homebrew tasting event, will be held March 15, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the Chickasaw Oaks Village.
