Blackstone’s St. Charles Porter, 2013 silver medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver

Nashville’s Blackstone Brewing Co. won a silver medal Saturday in the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

Blackstone’s St. Charles Porter won second place in the Brown Porter category. It was the 8th win at GABF for the St. Charles Porter and Blackstone’s 12th medal since 1996.

No other brewery in Tennessee took home medals in Denver this year, and no Mississippi or Arkansas breweries were winners.

The 2013 Great American Beer Festival competition, which awarded 252 medals, is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. In its 27th year, the 2013 competition surpassed all previous participation records.

Award-winning brewers received gold, silver and bronze medals in 84 beer categories covering 138 different beer styles (encompassing subcategories), establishing the best examples of each style in the U.S. Winners were chosen from 4,809 competition entries from 745 breweries, hailing from 49 states, plus Washington, D.C.

Blackstone Brewing Company of Nashville is now available in Memphis! You can buy its Nut Brown Ale, St. Charles Porter and American Pale Ale at Kroger, Cash Saver, Bardog Tavern, Whole Foods, Slider Inn and local craft stores.

Additionally, tastings will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at Flying Saucer (downtown and Cordova), Jack Magoo’s, Alchemy and Central BBQ (Summer Ave). Unfortunately, the American Pale Ale won’t be available on draft.

Last summer, the 18-year-old brewery opened a new bottling facility in Nashville, which you can check out in the video below.

We reported earlier about expansion plans by St. Louis’ Schlafly Beer to start brewing at Blackstone Brewing Company’s new production brewery in Nashville. But that’s not the only thing brewing at the new Blackstone facility.

Fans of Blackstone’s brewpub — Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery — will be happy to hear that Blackstone beer is now hitting shelves in the Nashville area.

Blackstone’s Chaser Pale, A.P.A., Nut Brown Ale and St. Charles Porter are now available in six-packs of 12-oz. bottles.

The video below gives a really nice inside look at the new facility. It was taken July 25 during a bottling run of the St. Charles Porter.

Also, in case you missed it, check out the recap and photos from my recent visit to Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery.
