From New England, with love: The gift of beer
My parents just got back to Memphis after a lengthy trip to New England and back down the East Coast, and they surprised me with a nice haul of beer from their travels.
Here’s what I got:
→ a 6-pack mixer from Bar Harbor Brewing Company in Bar Harbor, Maine.
→ a 12-pack mixer from Woodstock Inn Brewery in North Woodstock, New Hampshire.
→ a 12-pack mixer from Smuttynose Brewing Company in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. (I’m hoping to take a quick trip to NH next month and stop in for a tour of Smuttynose, which is the Granite State’s leading craft brewer.)
→ a 22-oz. bottle of Black Radish Beer from Weeping Radish Farm Brewery in Grandy, North Carolina.
Thanks to my uncle Harry for sending down the Woodstock and Smuttynose, and thanks to my parents for the Bar Harbor and Weeping Radish and for driving it all back.
I’ll do my best to write as many reviews as I can while I sample these brews over the summer.
Wow that’s a great haul! What is in the Smutty mixer? They are one of my favorite New England breweries. Hope to be able to get some out on Cape Cod in a couple of weeks.
1There were 3 of each of these: Shoals Pale Ale, Old Brown Dog Ale, Smuttynose IPA and Star Island Single (which is a spiced session ale).
I’ve tried all of ’em but the Star Island, which I think I’ll crack open right now…
2What did you think of the Star Island? I never did track that one down (I’ve had the other three, and thought they were great.)
3It was good. Nice easy-drinking beer. I’ll try to save one for you to try!
