Deviant Dale’s IPA in tallboy cans from Oskar Blues is a hophead’s delight
Deviant Dale’s IPA, the imperial IPA from Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery, is making its way across the U.S. in new 16-ounce tallboy cans.
The beer (8% ABV, 85 IBUs) packs a wallop of citrusy and piny hops on the nose, and intense hop flavor balanced by just enough malt sweetness.
Oskar Blues describes it this way: “Deviant Dale’s IPA was born at the crossroads, in a juke joint, as if Dale’s Pale Ale sold its soul to balance Deviant’s foreboding aromas of citrus, grapefruit rind and piney resins with a copper ball-of-fire color and inscrutable finish. The 2011 GABF Silver Medal Winner (American IPA Category) is the Devil incarnate with untold amounts of malt and hedonistic Columbus dry-hopping.”
I picked up a pair of four-packs over the weekend in Atlanta at Hop City Craft Beer & Wine at a not-so-cheap price of $13.49 a four-pack, but it’s worth it for when you want to splurge on a higher-alcohol IPA.
Deviant Dale’s is not available in Memphis at the moment, and I don’t believe it’s in Nashville, either. But be on the lookout for this beer. Since many varieties of Oskar Blues beers are sold in Nashville, including Dale’s Pale Ale, hopefully it will arrive in Tennessee soon.
Meanwhile, check out the video below from the inaugural canning of Deviant Dale’s IPA.
