After 58 years, Michelob no longer on tap at Rendezvous in Memphis

October 31, 2012 By: mike Category: Breweries, Memphis

MichelobSince 1954, Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous in Downtown Memphis has been serving up pitchers of Michelob beer to help people wash down all those world-famous barbecue ribs.

By some accounts, the Rendezvous has sold more Michelob on draft than any other restaurant in the country. But an era has come to an end.

The Rendezvous announced Tuesday on Facebook that it’s no longer serving Michelob.

We are sad to announce that over the weekend we served our last pitcher of Michelob after 58 years. Anheuser Busch is no longer producing draft Michelob. Any suggestions as to what beer should replace draft Michelob? [source]

The Rendezvous already serves pitchers of Golden Ale from Ghost River Brewing in Memphis. So what do you think should replace Michelob on the menu? Leave a comment below.

  1. That’s too bad. While it wasn’t my favorite beer, I always thought it was cool since you rarely saw that on draft any more (and they had been doing it for so long)

I say they put Copperhead Red on and keep both taps local!

  2. I think a good Kolsch would do the job. Maybe a Schlafly or something made close by.

However, if there were looking to mix it up, maybe a Ghost River Pale Ale or something really hoppy.

  3. Yes to the Ghost River Pale Ale, that style is good with BBQ and would be good to stay with all local beer

  4. Michelob never tasted better than when paired with some Rendezvous ribs and a cheese and sausage plate.

But what next? I love the idea of all local taps, with either a Ghost River red or pale. I just wonder about capacity. The Rendezvous has to be a huuuuge account and Ghost River is brewing all it can at the moment. So we’ll see.

Andy, cool idea about the Kolsch! A Schlafly Kolsch would taste great with some ribs.

  5. Abita Andygator or Blue Chimay would do the trick. Sierra Nevada also would be good.
