Southern beers for summer

June 29, 2012 By: grant Category: Breweries, Craft beer

Garden & Gun magazine has a nice list of 10 southern brews to help you get through these 100-degree days. I have to admit to only knowing about five of these breweries and having only sampled one (maybe two). Guess I better get crackin’.

Have you had any of these beers? Which are worth seeking out this summer?

Also, what the hell is a duck-rabbit?

  1. Gotta love Yazoo’s Dos Perros! Need to get my hands on some Southern Gold from Lazy Magnolia.

  2. The only time I’ve had Duck-Rabbit was in Pittsburgh (it was the milk stout), so I assumed they were a northeast brewery! Didn’t realize they were from NC!

  3. LA 31 is one of my favorite “southern” beers. Truth is Bayou Teacher might be my favorite southern brewery! The Cigar City is a nice beer an interesting take on a saison from a brewery that makes quite a few interesting beers. Haven’t had the Fullsteam mentioned but recently tried a couple of their brews. Good beer from a cool brewery in Durham. Wouldnlove to try some of the Easyrider anyone have it yet?

    • Sweet. I’ve had Bayou Teche but I’m not sure if that’s the one I’ve had. I may or may not have had many beers that day.

  4. I’ve had Yazoo, Bayou Teche and Lazy Magnolia several times, since they are all commonly available in the metro area. I’ll be giving Hester King a try (and a visit, I hope) in a couple weeks while working in Austin. Also want to hit Shiner’s brewery. I think their traditional German, every-day working class beers are overlooked and under-appreciated.
