CBU frat to roll empty beer keg through Memphis Saturday to raise money for St. Jude

TKE Barrel RollOn Saturday, if you see an empty beer keg rolling through the streets of Memphis, toss in a few bucks.

Alumni and active members of the Christian Brothers University chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity will be pushing a barrel by hand through the streets of Memphis to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The frat members will travel 17 miles through East Memphis, Midtown and Downtown.

The Barrel Roll starts at 9:30 a.m. at Christian Brothers High School, 5900 Walnut Grove Road, and ends at St. Jude at about 2:30 a.m. (Here’s a map of the route.)

The event will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original TKE Barrel Roll that benefited St. Jude. Fraternity members from around the country are returning to Memphis for the event following a year-long fund-raising campaign.

“In 1987, when we were a bunch of college kids who really didn’t know what we were doing, we raised $3,500 for St. Jude. Just think how much we can raise 25 years later!” said event organizer Chris Murphy, who’s hoping to dramatically increase the roll’s original haul.

All proceeds raised will be donated directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is an official charity of the TKE fraternity. Hospital founder Danny Thomas was a member of TKE.
