The free event, which starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes until early afternoon, will include a demonstration of basic homebrewing techniques for beginner and intermediate brewers. One batch will be brewed using extract, and an all-grain batch will be made using the three-tier method.

The event will be held in the parking lot of The Villa, 2094 Madison (across the lot from Paulette’s), and is sponsored by Bayou Bar & Grill, Boscos and Mid-South Malts.

Samples of homebrewed beer will be handed out and local brewers will be giving talks on hops, malts and the basics of brewing. A homebrew kit and gift certificates will be given away as prizes.

The event is sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association, which founded “Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day” in 1999 to introduce people to the hobby of homebrewing and to promote relationships with local homebrew shops. The event has since been held annually on the first Saturday in November.
